Proper Vaping Etiquette For The Holidays
Return to Vaping Blog

As you’re probably aware, vaping has become quite the controversial issue here in the US. The FDA is fighting with vaping industry behemoths. Shop owners are fighting with the government. And public health officials still can’t agree how to classify vaping in relation to smoking.

While vaping has been adopted by former cigarette smokers and those who’ve never smoked a cigarette in their lives, it’s still far from being universally accepted. So, what happens when you shove a bunch of opinionated family members together for the holidays?

Here are 5 tips for proper vaping etiquette during the holidays:

1. Don’t try to change anyone’s mind

While you may consider yourself a vaping aficionado, you need to come to terms with the fact that your family members aren’t. You may have statistics and medical journal excerpts at the ready, but don’t try to force-feed your friends and family your vaping revelation. Remember, nobody likes a know-it-all and sometimes less really is more.

2. Be mindful of your surroundings

The new Gingerbread Latte vape may taste and smell like heaven to you (and we agree!), but your friends and family might not enjoy having their senses assaulted by the smell. When possible, the best etiquette is to A.) ask if anyone would mind if you vaped or B.) excuse yourself to go vape in private.

3. Don’t spill your e-juice

This is an easy etiquette tip because the last thing you want is to be responsible for the big red stain on your aunt’s carpet this holiday. Always make sure you close and secure your e-juice container, and properly stow it in a bag or case where there’s no risk of a spill.

4. You’re not as sneaky as you think you are

Don’t try to pull a fast one over your friends and family by stealth-vaping when they’re not looking. It’s tacky, comes off childish, and can give an impression that you don’t respect others. If you’re tempted refer to etiquette tip number two.

5. Pick and choose your battles

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. If your family is anything like mine, they voice those opinions openly and loudly. But try not to add fuel to the fire by becoming defensive. If a friend or family member has some choice words regarding your vaping, just put it away or go vape in private.

Maybe sometime soon vaping won’t be as controversial as it is today, but until then, courtesy goes a long way.
