Some sources suggest that many vapers choose to use e-liquids that contain a low level of nicotine, or no nicotine at all. For the traditional cigarette smoker, regular tobacco cigarettes all contain some level of nicotine. In vaping products the smoker chooses what amount of nicotine he wants to smoke. This is a feasible alternative for the traditional tobacco cigarette smoker trying to quit or reduce their use of tobacco products.
Nicotine is one of the ingredients in the e-juice. This is the liquid that contains the flavor of the e-cigarette. Nicotine levels in manufactured e-juice can vary from zero, up to just under 50mg. The average levels of nicotine in e-juices range between 10mg to 12 mg.
What is the difference between e-cigarettes and regular tobacco cigarettes?
Tobacco cigarettes have no products that are nicotine-free. The cigarettes with the lowest level of nicotine are ultra-lights which have about 6mg of nicotine. Regular strength cigarettes contain around 10mg to 15mg. Full-flavor cigarettes hold about 18mg of nicotine.

From lowest to highest:
- Non-nicotine- These, of course, are e-juices that contain no nicotine in the ingredients.
- Low Density- This is about 6mg of nicotine. At this level the content is equivalent to most light or ultra-light tobacco cigarettes.
- Medium Density- Contains about 10mg to 15mg of nicotine. This is approximately the level of a mainstream tobacco cigarette.
- High Density- Approximately 18mg of nicotine. Close to the level of a full-flavored tobacco cigarette.
- X High Density- At this amount, the nicotine is higher than most regular cigarettes. The level is around 25mg.
- XX High Density- This is considered a high level of nicotine at 36mg. A level much higher than most tobacco cigarettes.
- XXX High Density- The premium level of nicotine in vaping and e-juices. At this level the content of nicotine is just under 50mg. This is almost five times the level of a regular tobacco cigarette.
Although the nicotine levels appear quite high, the vape smokers choose the level they are using. Vape products tend to be refillable, making it easy for the smoker to choose what they are inhaling, including the flavor of the e-juice, and the amount of nicotine. There is a vast array of flavors to choose from, with and without nicotine. The level of nicotine may also vary depending on the e-juice manufacturer.
For vapers, they have the choice of whether they use an e-juice with or without nicotine, and at what level. The availability to choose a non-nicotine product is a much healthier option for vapers and traditional cigarette smokers alike. This is especially true for those smokers that are trying to quit.
